Musicians at Work
Throughout my life, I have been fascinated by musicians, perhaps because I do not play an instrument: A large part of my life has been spent photographing them. Music is ubiquitous. I've photographed people playing and singing in concert halls, on the streets, in the Underground, even behind ruined temples in the Cambodian jungle.
The early orchestral photography originates from a twelve-year stint as photographer to the Louisville Orchestra. Classical musicians, pop and rock musicians and street buskers have come before my lens. Recently my work has been with classical musicians around the Royal Academy of Music in London, especially with violinist Peter Sheppard Skaerved and the Kreutzer Quartet. He has dragged me around to many unusual places like Ankara or Kosovo to hear sounds and make pictures. These images are a small sample of the performers I have met and photographed over many years, and a memory of those I have been privileged to hear.
